Institutional Investor Summit on Climate Risk

How about that for a snappy title? Yet the Summit held last month in New York joint hosted by the UN and Ceres could be extremely important. The 450 business leaders manage over $1.75 trillion in assets and pledged to collectively invest $10 billion in clean technology opportunities over the next two years and to incorporate “green standards” into their investment decisions. They called on the US congress to introduce a mandatory national policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% below 2050 levels by 2050 and with that money behind them they could be heard.

Well, when people look at the technology solution the businesses simply see new business opportunities. They’ll hope for Congress support because often this means subsidy or more likely tax breaks.

    Hi Matt,

Well said and quite correct. As to getting our current Congress to do anything, good luck!
